HISTORY
Livia Falcaru is a visual artist and graphic designer who is currently living and working in Bucharest. She studied graphics at Liceul de Arte "Dimitrie Cuclin" in Galati and starting 2014 she studied graphic design at Universitatea Nationala de Arte in Bucharest. She has spent the last five years developing a visual style that is engulfed in strong lines and bold colors. The Romanian illustrator frequently finds herself fascinated by anything and everything: from a chewing gum lying on the concrete to a random figure on the street to an oversized house-plant; triggered by anything we might all feel. Using analogue and digital techniques in every piece, Livia sees her work as a medium for real and honest communication with other people.

2018 // The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows
The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows is a compendium of words invented by John Koenig. They were created to define feelings and emotions which we might all feel but we don't have a word to define them yet. The dictionary contains a series of words invented by the author and accompanied by illustrations of Livia Fălcaru. This project seeks to restore the word sadness to its original meaning (from latin, satis) which means fullness. All words in this dictionary are new. They were not necessarily intended to be used in conversation, but to exist for their own sake; to give a semblance of order to a dark continent, so you can settle it yourself on your own terms, without feeling too lost—safe in the knowledge that we’re all lost.
