HISTORY
Prototip Studio is a Cluj based design&architecture studio. Its main focus is to develop concepts and to produce honest and quality design at different scales: from objects to spaces. With every project Prototip Studio finds a challenge in getting contemporary answers and playing in between the analog-traditional path and the new digital-experimental one.
Some of the most representative projects are: OO Eyewear brand, Base Headphones, Hopa bridge @ Someș Delivery 2017, modular furniture and design.

ROMANIAN DESIGN WEEK APPEARANCES

2019 // TIFF.17
During Transilvania International Film Festival, the pavements and public spaces get activated by the collective enthusiasm of the city. In order to scale up this feeling, Prototip Studio materialized the spirit of TIFF by stacking cardboard modules to form new paths, directions and spaces for the avid cinephiles and festival goers. Inside, users were invited to explore InfiniTIFF at ClujHub, Casa de Cultură a Studenților and Ingmar Bergman’s Legacy Exhibition in the museum of art, while outside bike racks and stair-chairs became the protruding urban objects that coloured the city. In another form, TIFF was lifted off the ground and made into a mobile shop inside a refurbished caravan, where you could find the t-shirts for InfiniTIFF designed by Prototip.

2018 // OO Eyewear - 2018 collection
OO Eyewear 2018 Collection brings in foreground the design which keeps the ludic spirit of the brand and creates new context for the relationship between material and shape, between face physiognomy and the object that accessorizes it, between material poetry and the purism of shape.

OO Eyewear mixes contemporary technics of production and design with traditional ones in a creative way, introducing in the present context the natural materials. The experimental shapes, the mix of materials and textures continue the brand concept and in the same time creates new ways of expression for one of the most used-up accessory. OO Eyewear is a Romanian brand which engages local resources, the whole process from idea to production is made in Transylvania.

2018 // Hopa Bridge
Hopa! Is about connecting the pedestrian path on Somes’s bank. Designing a bridge above the sewage canal that is connected with the river (but cut off the organic circulation), seemed to be a logical gesture. Hopa! is a bridge that not only connects the pedestrian way but also creates areas for seating, leisure and socializing through the presence of stairs from wood that follow the geometry of the terrain and cover the sewage hole.
The relationship with Somes river is stimulated by the presence of temporary interventions and they cultivates the interest for spending the spare time in the proximity of the river and also integrates Somes in city’s vivid life.

2017 // PLAY&REWIND 2.0 @ VIENNA DESIGN WEEK // XoXo
XoXo is a very popular game designed as a common and useful object – coasters that allow you to play while drinking (milk, if you are a kid).

2017 // PLAY&REWIND 2.0 @ VIENNA DESIGN WEEK // ZOO CHAIRS
The Zoo Chairs is a collection of chairs for children, that immerse minimal illustration engraved in wood. They are easy to manipulate and transport.

2017 // PLAY&REWIND 2.0 @ VIENNA DESIGN WEEK // THE BUBBLE
The Bubble speaks to you. It organizes and deposits. It is a kind of personal bubble full with good ideas which is on kid disposal. It helps them not to forget and keeps in sight important ideas, messages, cards, pens and pencils.

2017 // PLAY&REWIND 2.0 @ VIENNA DESIGN WEEK // THE TOWN
This is a 3d puzzle inspired by contemporary architecture. The game’s purpose is to stimulate children’s imagination and spatial perception

2017 // FRESCO
The three pieces from Fresco Furniture collection are marking the spacial dimension by using linear and brutal elements, that are also repetitional and planar, made from metal and wood. Diagonal Chair, Fresco Table and the Piramid shelves are designed studying the relation between volume and anti-volume, between solid and void through highlining with thin lines shapes that are in balance.

2016 // The Headphones

"The wood headphones" is a project about technology covered in wood. The project passed through many phases on its way and they developed many models. The last one - "0.5- the headphones" is made only from beech, oak and bamboo wood and it is adjustable.
The wood headphones is a project that they started in spring of 2013, but it has its roots in our heads a long time before. The basis was their love for music and aesthetics: they wanted  to make some headphones which look and sound good. To make them only from wood, it sounded like a good idea for them because they knew that it's a material with very good acoustics qualities and more than that they felt like there is a fine irony to wear on your ears some technology covered in wood.
