HISTORY
Ioana was born in Iasi, Romania, in ’82. Before moving to Bucharest to study architecture, she was schooled in a Waldorf school, where she got her love for nature, strong ethics and developed her art drive. For the following ten years, after finishing the highschool, she studied both architecture at UAUIM and fashion design at UNARTE and worked as an architect. Following her graduation, she got a scholarship at London College of Fashion where she moved in London to study a MA in fashion design and technology.  During this period she won the Designer for Tomorrow Award and moved back to Bucharest to open her studio. She is currently working on several projects, including developing her main line and diffusion line and strongly believes in growing a sustainable business.

SPECIFIC
Through loana’s background in both architecture and arts, the label explores the relationship between the static nature of buildings and the fluid structure of clothes, turning the brand into an award-winning creator of ready-to-¬wear. The collections are defined by loana Ciolacu’s signature that blurs the lines between femininity and masculinity, with an emphasis on tailoring, a personal use of materials and custom developed techniques.

ROMANIAN DESIGN WEEK APPEARANCES

2018 // Women of Bauhaus
Drawing its inspiration from the personal style and work of the iconic, yet uncelebrated women of Bauhaus, the collection embraces a sense of individuality and power, through fresh silhouettes, unexpected layering play and reinterpreted Bauhaus graphics.

Emphasized proportions are interrupted by delicate classic cuts. Disrupted proportions are emphasized by unexpected contrasting texture layering. Soft hues enhance the rich color panels in controlled construction. Fabric use is focused on fluid, texturized and graphic plays with sustainable recycled silk and wool, shred like summer knits and precious metallic knits.

Deconstructed sweatshirts bring a contemporary take to the collection with balloon sleeves and asymmetrical construction, switching the nostalgic and minimalistic 20’s to present days. Form play depends on shadows and lights with reinvented pleated work that hints from tailored numbers. Evening and cocktail dresses add to the feminine side with a twist of playfulness.

2017 // THREADS OF TRADITION @ VIENNA DESIGN WEEK // GIANT KNIT COLLECTION

The new collection developed by Ioana Ciolacu in partnership with Kraftmade takes a step further into a sustainable credo and tries to blend the local manufacturing skills into contemporary look. The sweaters are made of țurcana wool from local sheep breeders (sometimes this wool is thrown away as it is less soft than the merino wool). The designer commissioned local knitters to produce a series of wool goods such as pullovers and big wool scarves, developed in harmony with nature.

2016 // AUTUMN WINTER 16/17 // All Things Nice
Ioana Ciolacu is a Bucharest-based fashion house established in 2010. The AW16/17 collection All Things Nice is inspired by childhood and Fellini’s La Strada. It has been presented at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin in January 2016 and was featured on Vogue.com.

2015 // SPRING SUMMER // HUNTERS
HUNTERS collection brings out to life the conceptual relationship between the hunter and the prey. It’s all about the saying that in life we play both the role of hunters and preys and that whatever role we’re assuming, it can be switched in a second. Love, war, society, all these are beautifully guided by the game of power in which we play these two engaging roles. HUNTERS suavely grasps  these moments of power and weakness into 25 outfits and outlines them through color, fabric use, silhouette, print and several techniques. It is a collection that is halfway from technology and craftmenship. The colors, from pale tones to statement colors evoke the playful nature of this collection and of nature itself. The fabric use and its textures invite the wearer to transpose into these two roles which sometimes overlap. Silhouettes are both relaxed, fragile, dreamy yet structured and empowering for the inner hunters. Digital print designed personally by the designer brings out to life a world of luxury nature where both inoffensive birds and the predator flowers are living together in harmony. Techniques such as laser cutting and laborious hand stitching are meant to outline the strong capacity of these two to coexist in an esthetically enhanced manner.HUNTERS collection is the first full collection designed by Ioana Ciolacu and it expands to specially designed sunglasses to compliment the collection. Plexiglass, wood and cork, this material use on accessories compliment the above stated concept.
