2018 // The Art of Blacksmithing
The Art of Blacksmithing is a book that honors the craft of iron working. The first part can be considered a blacksmith's handbook. Sylvain Gabriel, traveling calf, spends a year at „Batem fierul la conac!” working with children in the village and gathering in a course exercises and notions necessary for a first initiation in blacksmithing. Over time, the material is updated with the set of objects, activities and theoretical notions acquired between 2012 and 2017 under the footsteps of blacksmiths Leo Coutant, Sebastien Palomas, Fabien Monestier, Antoine Deroo and Pierre Hosta guided by architects Alexandra Mihăilciuc and Şerban Sturdza.

At the same time, the volume can also be considered as an iron album in contemporary times, showing the series of objects created in this context within 10 years, together with the thoughts of iron-makers, designers, folklorists, ethnologists, collectors. This volume is about a modern history, about the stories that are being written now.
