HISTORY
ABRUPTARHITECTURA (Bucharest 2007) was co-founded by Cristina Constantin (1980) and Cosmin Pavel (1981), in 2009 Mirela Vlăduță (1982) joined the team.

SPECIFIC
ABRUPTARHITECTURA proposes a discourse centered on the theme of retrieving the domestic universe, the familiar in the built environment. "Home" becomes the subject of a research rather intuitive than planned, seeking the recuperation of the building act as founding, remaining and persisting somewhere, in a particular place.

ROMANIAN DESIGN WEEK APPEARANCES

2018 // FRONT-LINE STUDIO. Romanian Artists in the Great War
Inter arma silent musae. Over the initial order of space, given by the frame of the perimetral walls and rhythm of the ten pillars arranged on two parallel axes, the absurd logic of the war overlaps. The exhibition design proposes a deconstructed, hostile space, passing through disparate, rotated, broken elements: linear panels and “boxes” made of timber and plywood, painted in a dark color. There is nothing exposed on the contour walls, all the work being brought to the middle of the space.

The three “boxes” that can be entered - the “tower”, the “coffin” and the “tunnel” – project a direct experience of the war, through photos, journals, documents, projections, sound. The existing flooring is entirely covered with wooden floor, amplifying the noise of the steps, where sound follows the visitors through the exhibition space.

2018 // TERRAZZO OBJECTS

Design objects and furniture made of Terrazzo with an elegant, sensuous line. They have accepted without hesitation the proposal to design / produce together a series of pieces of furniture and some practical objects to exploit the nobility but also the versatility of this composite material. Intended for the moment to furnish a showroom (showing how and what can be done with terrazzo) the prototypes try to test the limits and opportunities of the material and production technology. Contour lines are prolonged, accentuating the massive body sensation (a mono-lithos) but also intensifying the edges’ perfection and detachment from the support surface. Brass inlays try to follow this logic of an elegance that is at the same time "baroque" and contemporary.
