HISTORY
Lana Dumitru is a young Romanian fashion designer from Bucharest who has recently finished her research in London and earned her PhD in Arts and Fashion.

SPECIFIC
You can consider Lana an artist manifesting her beliefs through fashion as you would find Lana’s clothing in an art gallery or in a museum, rather than in a shop. Her original style comes from the fact that she designs all her visuals and patterns through the means of digital printing.

ROMANIAN DESIGN WEEK APPEARANCES

2017 // THREADS OF TRADITION @ VIENNA DESIGN WEEK // HAPPY NATION
Happy Nation collection deals with the national past and the designer’s early memories using nostalgia and humour. Lana turns the oldest artistic forms of expressing the primal emotions (the ritualistic masks from the pre-Romanian traditions) into the contemporary digital masks- emojis. Also, the traditional carpet from a Romanian peasant’s house becomes the comfy climax of a chic overall and the turkey which express rural good fortune and prosperity becomes a symbol using the laser-cut.

2016 // UFO Jacket

How would it have been to be abducted by an blue-lighted UFO in a small village from the Communist Romania in the 60s? The celebrated outsider artist Ionel Talpazan (1955-2015) was so struck by this encounter that he created an entire volume of psychedelic drawings and paintings around the shape of the alien object leading to his recognition in the US art world. Following his fascination, the Romanian designer and artist Lana Dumitru has launched an UFO jacket adorned with Talpazan's UFOs and children drawings of planets, like a proper tribute to his wonderful visions.
