ROMANIAN DESIGN WEEK APPEARANCES

2017 // DISTORTED

This is a book shelves design. The idea starts from the typical grid with horizontal and vertical wood elements. What else can be changed? First of all, the weight. We could reduce it by more than half. How? We cut all in thin strips and then we interlock them with metal rods and screws. The design could get even thinner on top with a regression of levels depth by cutting off some front vertical elements. In the end, we fill it with books and apply 'distort'. The structure is realized by painted and lacquered wood panel strips.

2016 // Nordic Chair
The idea of this chair started like a critique of the ‘Scandinavian design’ phenomena: clean lines, sometimes monotone, sometimes bold, natural materials with warm textures but maybe too neutral, etc. And ultimately, IKEA, where you can assemble almost every product. Simple elements, cheap, low tech, rude joints. The wood is transforming into another kind of structure, economic yet robust. The four legs are some kind of different four legs. The seat and the backrest are merging and hung by the arms which are actually legs. Strange.
