Soare & Yokina Associated Architects (SYAA) is a multi-awarded architecture studio, founded in 2006, in Bucharest. Adrian Soare and Eliza Yokina are considered to be leaders in design trends and their talent and intuition have led to critic appreciation and have brought SYAA the brand reputation it carries today: a signature of contemporary architecture.

SPECIFIC
SYAA is using on a daily basis conjugations like create, respond, search, define, which they compose and engage in professional terms: land use coefficient, square meters, brand definition, vision, public space and private space. They combine them to create the right syntax, but beyond words, they join people with similar interests and together they build architecture, design, places.

ROMANIAN DESIGN WEEK APPEARANCES

2016 // LIMANU RESORT
B&B in Chilia Veche is built at the scale of the surroundings, with respect for nature, for local architecture and materials, but with a contemporary level of comfort. The B&B consists of 4 separate buildings: a building of the living and dining area; three buildings for accommodation, with 4 rooms each. The construction is made of masonry and concrete with terraces, stairs and framework made from wood. The walls are painted with clay plaster, a technique specific to this area, and is done by locals as the covering made of thatched roofs.

2016 // Grey Apartment
The beneficiaries of this interior design are a young family who wanted an airy, discreet space representative for their way of life. From the beginning the brief centered around the grey tones that have dictated the design, as the clients wished for a calm, relaxing and yet elegant background. In addition to the color palette, they came with a selection of design objects that SYAA took it over and built on the space environment. The beneficiaries are admirers of simplicity and minimalism, therefore they tried to create an interior representative for their life-style.

2015 // “T” INTERIOR DESIGN
The theme for this interior design was rather a story about a family with three daughters like in fairytales …The eldest daughter, Mary, likes most to paint, read and stage shows. She needed a space that is comfortable for a child that was soon to be a teenager, suitable for study and versatile. For her they created a wall of windows that close a large closet, a storage area built with integrated bed in it and a study desk with a house on top of it. The house aims to help Mary to organize objects and tools of study and painting, but also to exhibit her drawings on the roof . The middle daughter, Bianca, loves music most of all. She is very playful but withdrawn at the same time, because she adores to distance herself sometimes playing in hidden places. For her they created a box over the bed where she can hide and observe from there the rest of the house, unseen. The youngest daughter, Emma, hadn’t turned even a year and needs a flexible and free space in which to move around easily. On the staircase, the family wanted to place the library that provides plenty of room for books, but is also a specific element of the house. The master bedroom, bathrooms and hallway follow the same principles – efficient use of space and customization so that they become representative for each family member separately.

2015 // SIMBIO Kitchen & Bar
The project began in the spring of 2014 and went through all the specific phases of rehabilitation of a house built in the early 20th century. Simbio is a place where you can spend pleasant moments at brunch, taking dinner with friends or simply working. Therefore, the arrangement had to be primarily welcoming to guests. Moreover, the space had two roles to play: to be perfectly functional for the restaurant, but also to be representative for the house that existed for a century there. From the start, the intention was to keep and bring to light the valuable items, and, where necessary, to come to completion with finishes as close as possible to the era in which the house was built. Simple materials and processes were mainly used, with very few exceptions in cases of water infiltration in walls.
About 90% of the furniture was designed and produced for Simbio by local workshops from reclaimed oak wood with new insertions of ash, metal (iron, copper, brass) and antique mirror. The rest of the objects were found by the beneficiaries at flea markets, warehouses and on the internet.
